Following the UK-PHRST bilateral deployment with the Somaliland Ministry of Health Development (MoHD) and subsequent discovery of a technical gap in the MoHD’s epidemiological capacity, an online training program was designed to enhance participants' skills in outbreak investigation and data analysis.

The training was delivered over six interactive sessions over two weeks, providing a structured learning experience that equipped participants with essential epidemiological concepts and practical data analysis techniques. The total duration of the training was 13 hours, and 25 participants attended.

Key Content Covered:

  • Key epidemiologic terms, steps of outbreak investigation, fundamentals of data cleaning and management.
  • Data analysis in Excel, including case classification, pivot tables, calculating incidence and case fatality rates, and visualizing epidemic curves.
  • Creating maps using QGIS.

This training provided a strong foundation for professionals involved in public health response, equipping them with analytical skills essential for effective outbreak management.
