Hello everyone!

It was great listening to the talks and discussion on IPC. But is it feasible to create a dedicated cadre of IPC professionals? Rather than training and re-training existing health care workers?

Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed the discussion. I would say it’s not a question of either/or. To deliver safe, high quality patient care it is essential for all health workers to be trained in IPC, ideally integrated into preregistration courses and then regular top up training post qualification and through their working lives. To enable delivery of this training and to integrate it into a comprehensive programme of IPC in health care, leadership by dedicated IPC specialists is also essential. This won’t happen overnight but if we want to provide safe health care to our patients, protect our health workers and the wider community, we must treat IPC as a cross cutting part of health care and not just implement during outbreaks.
